8) Committee Reports
Brandon:
- we could add our Zoom meeting date and time on the RI Website, which would allow other Rotary Members from around the world to join in on our Club Meetings. Further, we each have the option to join a Zoom meeting from another Club around the world (information on RI Website). Brandon is going to send Holly Thomson a message to ask how we add our Club's information on this site.
Brandon:
- Our club website's url has now been updated from portal.clubrunner.ca/1274 to sydneyrotary.ca.
John:
Wilkinson Trust - This year Our Club has access to donate $12,000 in scholarship money from the Wilkinson Trust. We will be donating $7,000 to Riverview High School and $5,000 to Sydney Academy this year. John is going to contact Sandra Burke at the Centre for Education to determine how to get this money to them.
Bob:
- Update on turning our refund from Adventures in Citizenship to a donation to the Rotary Club of Ottawa. This has now been completed, and that Club has sent us a receipt for our donation.
Gina:
- she has a Zoom meeting tonight with the District. She needs to do a report from all clubs with respect to highlights from the year. Brandon and Bob are going to send her some photographs to add to her presentation for our club.
Gina:
-brought up the fact that some Clubs are using the regular money they would spend for lunch at a meeting ($15) and donating it to a Charity during this time. She brought it up for discussion, to see if it is something that our club would be interested in doing. There was a general discussion about whether and how that could be done by e-transfer, rotating charities, or having individual members be responsible to make their own donations. This is going to be brought up at the next meeting of the Board of Directors. If anyone is interested in taking the lead on such a project, please let Brandon know.
Bob:
- asked for an update on whether our District (7820) is merging with District 7821, as he had heard that was something which may be happening. Gina advised that to her knowledge, there is such a merger in progress, but she is not sure of the exact status, including details of such a merger or its potential impacts.
Brandon:
- attended Rotary training last night on Public Image and Social Media for our club, by using a certain type of software. It was led by a Rotarian from Alaska. He noted there is a District 7280 public image group on Facebook where people can share ideas and best practices on this topic.
Brandon:
- RI President, Mark Maloney, is going to be the Speaker at this Week's online Coffee and Conversation put on by our District.

- at next week's meeting, our Guest Speaker will be from the Rotary Foundation. Please make your best efforts to attend. One positive thing about our online meetings is that it allows us to engage speakers from around the world.
Brandon:
-the Slack app for our Club is now up to date. A good portion of our Club has signed up. If you haven't signed up yet, please do. It is a good place to build on ideas that come up at our meetings. It is exclusive to our club. Brandon gave us an online tour of it. If you need help getting on it, please message Brandon.
Scott:
-now that parks are open, perhaps we could do a Paper Chase at the entrances of Rotary Park sometime in June. Of course, we would strictly adhere to all social distancing guidelines, including a maximum of 5 people in a group. Scott is going to follow up with the CBRM on this and provide an update to the Club. Brandon suggested encouraging our community members to go to all parks to clean up while complying with the guidelines. For example, only go in a group of those you reside with.
